The Parc Hotel in Cardiff, one of the city’s landmark buildings, recently underwent a complete refurbishment at the hands of its owners, the Thistle group. A key part of the facelift for this beautiful 140-bed Victorian hotel was an extensive lighting scheme by Concord, created in collaboration with M&E Consultants, RHB Partnership.
Concord supplied a wide selection of Havells Sylvania lighting products for most of the principal spaces, starting with the reception area, where linear fluorescent Channel fittings and LED 100 TE downlights were employed to create a warm welcome for visitors. The LED 100 TE 26W downlight, with a silver bezel, was also used extensively as a low energy light source in the lobby seating area and ground floor bar areas, to complement the modern feature lighting fixtures. The hallways within the hotel were lit with decorative Cassini 400 luminaires, which also house the emergency lighting.
The Channel system, in its recessed version, was used highly effectively around the ceiling perimeter of the restaurant to wash the walls – as well as being dropped into a ledge detail behind the seating as an ambient uplighter. Elsewhere in the restaurant, and its adjacent bar, recessed, adjustable versions of Lyteframe, housing 2 x 35W Britespot ES111 metal halide lamps, with anti-glare optics, were specified, to provide punchy accent and display lighting, with excellent colour rendering.
The bar is graced by a striking wall feature, comprising square panel sections set forward from the wall surface, with a highly effective minimalist lighting treatment. Each panel features a single Lift fixture by Simes, with a 35W HIT-TC CRI lamp, which fires a narrow 2-degree beam of light vertically downwards. The edges of each panel are backlit from behind, again with lengths of the Channel system.
Moving upstairs, Lumiance Instar and Concord Myriad 50 low voltage downlights were used as recessed accent downlights in the shelves of all the bedrooms and bathrooms – supplemented by the extremely shallow LS110 8W/13W T5 fluorescent cabinet light.
